"And so I really underestimated my mental side of things. "And for me, I think the hardest part was being patient with myself and knowing that I expected way too much of myself and put a lot of pressure on top of that to perform well after not playing competitively for a year. But I think whenever you're an athlete and you get injured, it definitely pays a price a little bit mentally," Yuen said. "That tournament, going into it, I had realized a lot of things.

"So it took me a couple months to really feel like I was before."Īt the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic in early November in Athens, Georgia, Yuen was back to full strength for the first time in over two years. "I had every symptom and everything like that," Yuen said. Yuen was cleared to return this season, but before she took her first in-season swing, she tested positive for the coronavirus. That September diagnosis made her road back to 100% health just a little longer. Yuen had to redshirt the 2019-20 season so she didn't damage it even more.Īs tough as the decision was, it proved to be the correct one as lots of rehabilitation was needed to get back her form. Yuen had developed De Quervain's Tenosynovitis - a painful condition affecting the tendons on the thumb side of your wrist. It was taped up and she played through it. Playing at a tournament in the Nashville, Tennessee, area, her hand started to go numb. It was in September 2018 when Yuen first felt pain in her right wrist.
That's mostly due to injuries and other ailments. Yuen first made the NCAA Tournament as a freshman in 2017 but hasn't competed at the highest level in college golf since.
